An Update on Last Week’s Website Outage

A little over a week ago, we had a serious website outage lasting over two days. This was caused by a failure of our web host’s database servers. While we were able to change some code so the homepage would still appear, pretty much everything else was out.
With such a long downtime, we were seriously considering switching web hosts, but decided to stick with the same web host because they had been quite reliable up till then. However, that all changed last Thursday.
On Thursday, our web host was down again, this time because the main server we were hosted on was out. For us, this was obviously too much, and we switched to a more reliable, but also more expensive web host. Our new web host also appears to be much faster with page load times cut in half since we switched to them.
Altogether, we’re quite happy with our new web host so far, and are hoping our web site will be up much more in the future. However, because of the greater cost, we’ve decided to put a few ads on our website instead of raising prices for subscribers. We’ve limited the ads to a small space on the few pages where we did put them to keep them from becoming annoying.
